Can true believers not celebrate Christmas? Before leaving church Sunday just four days before Christmas. I had conversation with a brother who had been attending my church for years and I had identified him as one of the pastors oldest friends.
“See You, on Christmas day at the annual Christmas service fellowship, if Lord willing” I shouted; I had assumed, he would be there excited to be in the fellowship with the saints helping to celebrate the,the birth of the Lord.I was shock when he said “I don’t celebrate Christmas”… I saw you at the Christmas fellowship last year, I insisted. Thought I saw you here for years. I was slightly embarrassed when he insisted, I had not seen him on Christmas. I left with the question in my mind,” Can a true believer not celebrate Christmas? I thought all believers in Jesus Christ celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ.
But, I was standing talking to a brother who had no desire to celebrate the blessed event.I had heard all the arguments why not to celebrate Christmas, from the lost and the unbelievers, but, here was a man, educated, the father of more than eleven children, I thought he was a mature christian. How could I have been so wrong? As I continued to ponder, bible truth flooded my soul:
…what is that to you ? follow me. (John 21:22)
Its required that a man be found faithful. (2 Cor. 4:2)
Provoke one another… not forsaking assembly together (Heb. 10:24-25)
You look on the outside of a man.God looks on the heart. (1 Sam 16:7)
The heart deceitful and desperately wicked… (Jer. 17:9)
…If you continue in my word then you are my disciples indeed. (John 8:31)
Finally,”Can true believers not celebrate the birth of Christ?” Answer: Yes. But why not? (2 Cor 13:5)
